October 30, 2016 - Update
Hello everyone! I say "everyone" but I really don't know how many of you keep up with this site and/or routinely check in. Maybe nobody does and I'm just talking to myself. Whatever the case, I like to pretend that I have a small readership so I write for them.
I've been gone for at least a couple months now and I truly feel bad about that. This summer, I struggled to write. Writing my little reviews for films has felt more taxing of late. I don't know why. My love for film has not diminished by any means, it's simply the case that I would spend upwards of two hours writing my reviews and still feel unsatisfied. It had me frustrated, and this had rarely been the case before. In my five-ish years maintaining this film blog, I've been hit with a lack of motivation or frustration, but no absence has ever felt this lengthy before. For this, I am very sorry. And I don't think any reviews coming out in the next couple of months will be regular or routine.
But I still watch new films as consistently as I did before, maybe even more voraciously. I've been dedicated to seeing more 2016 releases in 2016 than I've done for any year before. If you'd like to keep up with my progress, follow my account @moviepoop on Letterboxd. This brings me to my main point.
I would still love to write my thoughts on films, new and old, but in a less exhausting and less formal way than before. I'm thinking when I can, I'll cover a few films at a time in the form of a blog post (like this one). Now, a lack of motivation isn't the case but a real lack of time. School is in full swing and I'm not only a full time student but working two jobs. Balancing all of this and MOVIE POOP is extremely difficult.
Recently, I've seen American Honey, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Evolution (which gets a U.S. release late November). I'll try to post more in-depth thoughts a little later, but all three are good films. American Honey is my new favorite for 2016. This is a truly magnificent film and if you can get to it, I would highly recommend it. Evolution is also incredible. This is an intensely chilling, ambiguous body horror film. And Ouija: Origin of Evil is just kind of a fun time. But, as I said, more thoughts later.
Here's to many more years of MOVIE POOP. I've put a ridiculous amount of time into this blog since I started it and have no plans to abandon it. For now, I need a different way to write, but I'm sure I'll return to my typical format before too long. It's now impossible to put the time and effort into my typically lengthy reviews with so many other pressing matters in my life, but I've just gotta write about film. So if my posts are unpolished, contain some errors, or aren't eloquent in terms of analysis, know that when I eventually do get the time to write the best I can (which shouldn't be too far away), these posts will improve. In the meantime, please bear with me. I'm just a guy who loves cinema and wants to share his thoughts with people.
